Decapitated body found in vacant Niagara Falls house

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Police uncovered a partially decomposed body inside a vacant house in the 1100 block of Willow Avenue in Niagara Falls late Tuesday evening. A neighbor contacted police after she says she smelled a strong odor while walking by which caused her to look into the house.

The female victim’s head, arms and feet had been removed and were not at the scene. Police believe the body was placed in the home after the crime.

The vacant house is located just a block away from a library and a few blocks from an elementary school. Police are investigating to determine how the person died and came to be in the vacant home and how long the body may have been in the home.

Police say that while it appears this crime bears similarities to the death of Loretta Gates, it’s too early for them to make any type of connection between the two deaths. Gates’s torso was found in the Niagara River in 2012. Her murder remains an unsolved case.

Police identified the body as a white female. They believe they know her identify but are withholding it until family can be notified.
