Springfield thanks city crossing guards, bus monitors

State Representative Carlos Gonzalez and Superintendent Daniel Warwick hosted event

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A big thank you to Springfield’s crossing guards and bus monitors Monday afternoon. About two dozen of them showed up for a free lunch and some appreciation.

Being a bus monitor or crossing guard is often a thankless job, but they are out there trying to protect our kids.

Germaine Murchison from the Springfield School Department told 22News, “Believe it or not, it’s just something that you want word to get out that your kid is safe, and you don’t have to worry about anything happening.”

“I have issues with kids who just decide, why not walk out into the street, and make traffic stop, it just doesn’t work like that,” said crossing guard Joseph Perry.

State Representative Carlos Gonzalez and Superintendent Daniel Warwick hosted the event.
