Chicopee crash: Car went airborne, hit McDonald’s sign and flipped over

Driver and passenger in stable condition at the hospital

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee police believe that speed led to a rollover crash in the parking lot of the McDonald’s on Burnett Road, which injured two people at around 1:30 Monday morning.

Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told 22News that the driver had been continuing onto Burnett Road from I-291, crossed the median, and then hit a curb. That sent the vehicle airborne, where it struck the McDonald’s sign and landed near the drive thru.

“The crash was so fierce, there was debris scattered everywhere, and a 40 lb. piece of granite was sent over 200′,” Wilk wrote on the department’s official Facebook page.

The driver and passenger were taken to the hospital, where they are both listed in stable condition.

Wilk says it is believed that speed led to the accident.
