SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A 23-year-old Springfield man was shot Sunday morning in the city’s metro center.

The man was shot in the leg around 2 o’clock Sunday morning at the intersection of Dwight and Worthington Streets.

Springfield Police Lt. Richard LaBelle said a nearby patrol officer saw the shooters among four men that got into a small car and fled from the area.

The officer pursued the car up Worthington to Spring Street, south to School Street. The suspects abandoned the car near the corner of Ridgewood Terrace and Mulberry Street.

The men split, with two of them running toward the Milton Bradley School and two running toward the Springfield Cemetery.

Police were able to find one of the men in the cemetery and he was arrested and charged with trespassing.

The abandoned car was towed away and is being checked for evidence.

The 23-year-old victim is expected to survive, but is not being cooperative with police.
