“I’ll See You in My Dreams”

A Look at the Movies

Rated PG-13

1 hour 40 minutes

Blythe Danner, Sam Elliott, Rhea Perlman, Mary Kay Place, June Squibb

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s such a pleasure to see a love story that’s not about 20-somethings in a singles bar.

Although 70-something Blythe Danner still yearns for a meaningful social life.

“I’ll See You in My Dreams” is a sweet, sensitive and frequently funny story of what happens when you get older and hate being alone.

For Danner the dating game in her retirement community has its drawbacks. Most of the guys are either brain dead or have nothing but sex on their minds.

How does this still vibrant widow convince herself there’s still plenty of life left in front of her? One way is to cheer up and share the obvious chemistry with potential soul mate Sam Elliot.

As amusing as this lovely picture may be, prepare to be ambushed with scenes of heart wrenching emotion. After all, “I’ll See You in My Dreams” is playing to a mature audience that’s been through the whole spectrum of feelings.

I’d be surprised If Blythe Danner’s magnificent performance isn’t the envy of her neighbors. As long as you know that “I’ll See You in My Dreams” is a charming delight.

Why else would I give the movie that gave Blythe Danner her finest role in years, 4 stars?

“I’ll See You in My Dreams” is truly something to see…
