SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Almost 3 months before they attend their first class, Springfield College freshmen participated their first community service project Friday.
The Class of 2019 helped prepare care packages for Friends of the Homeless and for students at Springfield’s Brookings Elementary School. They filled packages with daily necessities.
These freshmen found this community service project personally rewarding.
Bruce Johnson of Fitchburg said, “It shows leadership and you’re helping the community out. Everyone’s helping out, that’s what this school is all about: helping people.”
Kemba Webson of Boston said, “I think it’s pretty cool. I liked community service, even before I got to college. Pretty awesome.”
These thirty students are first of the Springfield College freshman class, which will have more than 500 men and women.
