As summer season approaches, know when to properly clean your air conditioning unit

Most likely if filters are not cleaned, your air conditioner unit might run less efficiently

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – As we approach summer season it is important to know how to properly clean your air conditioning unit.

Temperatures have been rather warm lately, so most people already have their ac running.

Most air conditioning units are able to pop open the front and take the filter right out.

In fact many units are similar to drier unit filters. where you can take the dust and dirt right off.

Cleaning the unit and replacing the filter is the easy part, but sometimes it is remembering to clean the filter that might be the issue.

Mike Gavoni, of Ludlow, told 22News, “I check the filter in the beginning of the season and I clean it once for the whole season, and that’s it.”

Checking the filter once a month is a good idea, and of course it depends on how long the unit is staying in your window.

Jason Young, Manger of Rocky’s Hardware, explained to 22News, “As your putting it in the window make sure you are checking it, on it’s way in, I would maybe the first of every month that it is in the window, pulling it out and making sure it’s still clean, or replacing it if it looks like it needs to be replaced.”

If you aren’t able to tell when to change the filter, it’s a good idea to replace it every three to four months.

Most likely if filters are not cleaned, your air conditioning unit might run less efficiently and if you are someone who has allergies you might suffer from the dirt and the dust.

Sometimes it is hard to know when to replace the filter, so following these guidelines should help.
