WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Boy Scouts from all across western Massachusetts are gathering this weekend at Stanley Park in Westfield.
It’s a celebration of scouting. More than 700 scouts from 50 units from all four counties are represented.
Saturday’s events included a pinewood derby, first aid and leadership activities including shelter and bridge building.
For these scouts, it’s an opportunity to form bonds and friendship that will follow them throughout their scouting years and do team building activities that will help them later in life. Troop 359’s Alex Puhalsky of Wilbraham said, “Good to get out and see all the other troops and be a part of something bigger than just the usual campout in the woods. It’s a great time.”
Boy Scouts Council Chair John Willemain said, “I am paying it forward, as they say, and trying to provide opportunities for today’s kids to experience the same things that I experienced over the years in scouting.”
The scouts will be camped out overnight and will finish up their activities Sunday.
All these troops get together once every five years.
