HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) – Police say a 10-year-old Connecticut boy hid in a bedroom after someone broke into his home in Hamden.
Police say a man who knew the homeowner forced his way into the Belmont Street house through the back door on Wednesday, and broke into a safe holding jewelry and a large amount of cash.
WTNH-TV reports 31-year-old Derrick Hoover of New Haven was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, sixth-degree larceny and interfering police. He also was held on three outstanding warrants. He was held on $25,000 bail on the new charges and a total of $200,000 for the warrants. It’s not clear if he has an attorney to comment.
A neighbor, John Edwards, told the station neighbors are surprised by the break-in in what is usually “a very nice neighborhood.”
