WESTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Severe thunderstorms brought heavy downpours and frequent lightning Wednesday night, and one of those lightning strikes caused a fire that damaged a home in Westhampton.
Westhampton Fire Chief Christopher Norris told 22News that homeowners were in their house on Tipping Rock Road at the time of the lightning strike and the fire. They called 911, and were able to get out safely.
Norris said that it was very difficult for fire crews to reach the house, which is up a steep hill.
Firefighters from Westhampton, Southampton, Chesterfield, Goshen, Hatfield, Huntington, and Williamsburg, as well as a crew from Pioneer Valley Ambulance were called-in.
Norris said that the owners of the home are currently staying with neighbors.
