Man rushed to hospital after shooting on Springfield porch

A man in his late 20's suffered a single gunshot wound to his stomach

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police said a man was shot in the stomach while sitting on a front porch in the city’s Mason Square neighborhood Wednesday night.

Springfield Police Captain Robert Strempek told 22News that someone fired at the victim and someone else on the porch at 46 Burr Street at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.  It was unclear whether the shooter was in a car or walking at the time.

Captain Strempek said the victim, a man in his late twenties, suffered a single gunshot wound to his stomach.  He was taken to the hospital and rushed into emergency surgery overnight. Police have not made any arrests.

“A woman on the porch was grazed by a bullet,” Captain Strempek said.  Her injuries did not appear to be serious.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that the man who was shot in the stomach is expected to survive his wound.
