CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts veterans are hoping people remember that Memorial Day is more than just a day off from work.
Vets at American Legion Post 452 in Chicopee told 22News they hope people remember the reason for this holiday: that it’s a time to remember the military men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
It’s a sacrifice that many veterans told 22News they’d still be willing to make in the name of freedom.
Korean War Veteran Nick Cormier said, “I’m hoping people remember all the people that served and died for our country, it’s one heck of a thing for someone to put their life on the line for us.”
The veterans we spoke with plan to spend the weekend remembering and honoring their lost comrades by marching in the Hampden Memorial Day Parade.
That parade steps off Monday at 10 a.m.
