Summer travel is heating up

(NBC News) Gasoline prices are creeping up, but this will still be the cheapest Memorial Day for drivers in five years, and that means a lot more people hitting the road.

The national average price of regular is $2.73.

“The cheapest gas prices in five years for the holiday are motivating 33 million Americans to take a trip for Memorial Day weekend because driving is a lot less expensive than it normally is,” notes AAA’s Michael Green.

It’s not just road trips to America’s beaches. More Americans will fly to vacations this summer to faraway places that are suddenly more affordable.
