Local businesses prepare for summer season

Some businesses increasing hours of operations to cater to visitors

SHELBURNE, Mass. (WWLP) –  This Memorial Day weekend many businesses in Franklin County will be getting ready for summer.

With the weather getting warmer, many people are planning their travel and seasonal activities. Hager’s Farm Market in Shelburne is known for their family-friendly outdoor activities. Karen Hicks from Hager’s said they see an increase in customers starting around this time of year, every year. “People are not just going from home to work. They’re out and about and doing things with their families and outside activities and we want to cater to that,” said Karen.

Shelburne Falls Coffee Roasters is also expecting an increase in tourism. The manager told 22News, they benefit from other companies along Route 2 who specialize in outdoor activities. “A couple white water rafting companies,  we have the Alpine Slide north from here. There’s fishing guides. There’s a lot of outdoor activities,” said Cathy Sherry.

Those outdoor activities attract people from near and far, bringing more business and money to town. “I’m going biking this weekend, and I’m going kayaking this weekend. I’m not usually around so I’m really excited to enjoy the valley,” said Linda Singer of Greenfield.

Some businesses even told 22News they’re expanding to attract families looking to make summer time memories.

Many businesses that benefit from tourism told 22News, they’re increasing their hours of operations to cater to the increase in visitors.
