WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Some historically-significant cast iron plates that were initially believed to have been stolen from a Westfield cemetery, turns out not to have been stolen at all. City police say they have found some of the face plates, which were missing from the main gate to the Old Burial Ground cemetery on Mechanic Street.

The Westfield Detective Bureau posted on their Facebook page that it appears the plates were never stolen. In their investigation, police discovered that the plates had fallen off the post, possibly years ago, and were found by employees doing maintenance on the grounds.

Two of the three plates were located.
