Mass. unemployment rate continues to drop

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – According to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, Massachusetts added more than 10,000 jobs last month. It’s the seventh month in a row that the unemployment rate decreased, bringing the state’s jobless rate to 4.7 percent.

22News visited FutureWorks in Springfield to see what it’s like for job seekers in western Massachusetts and they’re busier than ever. It’s a good balance of supply and demand, with many job seekers applying for many positions in the restaurant and retail industries, specialty trades, construction, and the post office. Some of it is seasonal work but director of Career Services Konrad Rogowski told 22News that job seekers should never underestimate those positions.

“The ability to get in to basically present yourself on the job to an employer is a great plus,” he explained. “They see how you work, what your work ethic is, and how you learn. That could lead to many other opportunities. ” FutureWorks will be hosting a job fair on June 8th from 4-7PM at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield.
