Clean up coming for polluted Holyoke property

Environmental Protection Agency regulations mandate the process to clean up the contamination

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A plan is coming together to clean up and demolish a polluted piece of property near the Connecticut River in Holyoke.

Environmental Protection Agency regulations mandate the process to clean up the contamination at the former Automania building.

It had been used for automobile paint and repair, and there was fuel oil and waste oil stored on site as well.

Before any development can be considered, asbestos, lead paint, mold and underground storage tanks will have to be removed.

Holyoke owns the half acre of land.

The cleanup begins in July.
