SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The people who present Springfield’s Caribbean Carnival every summer held their first scholarship gala Thursday night at the Barney Carriage House at Forest Park.
Hundreds from Springfield’s Caribbean-American community attended.
Springfield Carnival Association Scholarship Chairwoman Veta Daily congratulated the five scholarship winners who will graduate from their high schools in Springfield next month.
Scholarship recipient Rushawna Elliot said, “I feel blessed. This is a great opportunity for me, and I’m happy to be a part of it.”
Daily told 22News, “We are reclaiming our heritage, which is rooted in history, integrity and education and religion.”
The Springfield Caribbean Carnival Association is now preparing for their 15th annual festival. This year’s celebration of culture will take place on Saturday, August 15th.
