Springfield Rotary Club celebrates 100 years

The Rotary Club was honored for its many community service projects

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Rotary Club flag flies over Springfield City Hall Wednesday evening in recognition of the Springfield service club’s 100th anniversary.

The Rotary Club was honored for its many community service projects.

Former president Jim Russell is a second generation Rotarian, having been a member for more than 50 years.

Russell said, “At the tender age of 27 I was rejected because they thought I was too young. The following year my father tried again and this time I was accepted.”

Since women started being accepted into the Springfield Rotary Club in 1988, 40 percent of Springfield Rotarians are women.
