PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) – A three-day celebration is underway at a landmark local business, which has been an institution in eastern Hampden County for 75 years.
Customers have been coming in large numbers to Rondeau’s Dairy Bar on Route 32 in Palmer, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary. 22News spoke with many senior citizens Wednesday, who claim to have been customers there since they were children. They said they had to be there for the dairy bar’s special celebration.
Owner Dick Rondeau told 22News that they are still selling the items that they sold back in 1940, albeit with a few more ice cream flavors. His son and daughter have been working at Rondeau’s most of their lives.
Michelle Rondeau told 22News, “I’m proud to watch people walk away smiles on their faces, and ice cream in their hands, which is what I remember my grandfather enjoyed seeing.”
Mike Rondeau said, “My grandfather taught me when I was 12, when my grandpa passed away we had 25 flavors, now we’ve got 54.”
The anniversary celebration began on Tuesday, and continues through Thursday.
