SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Organizers of the World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast say that this year’s event was a smashing success. The Spirit of Springfield estimates 12,000 people descended upon downtown Springfield Saturday morning to feast on pancakes and bacon, seated at tables lining Main Street.

Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt said expressed thanks to their main sponsor, MGM Springfield, for their contribution to the event. MGM Springfield President Michael Mathis served as honorary chairman of the event.

“We were thrilled with the turnout and support of MGM Springfield,” Matt said.

The strong attendance came despite cloudy conditions following showers earlier in the morning.

Large numbers of volunteers set up tables, chairs, and tents. Other volunteers prepared and served the breakfast. The batter was mixed the day before by kitchen staff at Mercy Medical Center.

Next year’s World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2016.
