Hybrid roller coaster “Wicked Cyclone” opens at Six Flags New England

WIcked Cyclone is one of only five hybrid coasters in the world

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – One of the most anticipated roller coasters in the country is open for business, and 22News got a sneak peek at Six Flags’ new Wicked Cyclone.

By the time you hear it, it’s already gone. The Wicked Cyclone is Six Flag New England’s newest rollercoaster. Like the iconic Cyclone it replaced, this, too is wood, but also steel. It’s just one of five hybrid coasters in the world.

Allison Litera of Chicopee said, “Just incredible that we have the opportunity to have it revamped, because we were so upset when it was closing. But the fact that they revamped it, and it’s incredible, it’s a hundred times better.”

We had to see for ourselves. Reminiscent of wooden rollercoasters, the first climb makes that clickety-clack sound. At the top, it’s a different story, as you speed down a 78 degree drop at 55 miles an hour.

You’ll get airtime over 14 hills and loop around two rolls at zero gravity.

Marco Defruscio of Providence said, “The elements are so compacted together, you have like no time to be like sitting in your seat. You’re just constantly like being ejected out of your seat.”

Each inch of the 3,320 feet of track is full of excitement that makes you want to ride it again and again.

You can experience it for yourself this weekend.
