Cancer awareness symposium held in Westfield

The doctors held the seminar as a public service to educate people about cancer

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A panel of Oncology Specialists hosted a Cancer Awareness Symposium in Westfield Wednesday night.

The doctors held the seminar as a public service to educate people about cancer.

They talked about cancer prevention through screening and determining genetic risks, and how cancer is much more treatable when it’s found in its early stages.

Peter Velis of Westfield said, “I was heartened by some of the therapies they say are looming in the future, so that it gives us hope. These gentlemen were able to tell us like it is. They were real about this disease.”

The four doctors were from the Pioneer Valley Oncology Hematology, a private practice affiliated with several area hospitals, HMO’s and medical centers.

They’re hoping to hold several more of these public outreach seminars.
