(WHDH) – The U.S.S Constitution will spend the next three years getting major restorations at Boston’s Charlestown Navy Yard.
It’s not an easy process for the oldest commissioned warship still on the water.
On Sunday morning the gates opened up, flooding the dry dock that will be home to Old Ironsides for the next three years.
“The ship is anything but fragile, but she is 217 years young and she’s a national treasure so we treat the ship with kid gloves,” Commander Sean Kearns said.
