WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Pieces of a historically-significant cemetery gate have been stolen, and Westfield police are on the lookout for the thieves.

The Westfield Police Detective Bureau posted on their official Facebook page that earlier this month, someone stole cast iron faceplates off the main gate to the Old Burial Ground cemetery on Mechanic Street.

Metal thefts have increased in recent years due to the high value of scrap metal, and unconventional items, ranging from storm drain grates to utility pole grounding wires, have been stolen across western Massachusetts at various times.

If you have any information about the thefts at the Old Burial Ground, you are asked to call Detective Phelon of the Westfield Police at (413) 642-9390.
