HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – In a unanimous decision Tuesday night, the Holyoke City Council voted to approve a zone change that could allow Gary Rome to build a car dealership in the city.
Gary Rome hopes to build his proposed dealership on an 18-acre piece of property on Whiting Farms Road. He’s now one step closer to turning his vision into a reality.
The land is on a busy roadway that connects Holyoke’s two largest shopping districts, the Holyoke Mall and KMart Plaza. It is also directly across the street from a residential neighborhood.
Holyoke’s planning board unanimously recommended the zone change last month. The land is currently owned by Holyoke Gas and Electric, which has already agreed to sell it to Rome for $2 million.
It’s important to note this zone change does not mean the city council approved Rome’s dealership. That is not officially a done deal just yet.
