SPRINGFIELD, Mass (WWLP) — There may be traffic as you head downtown to Springfield Saturday morning.
The World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast begins at 8:00AM. Hundreds of people are expected to gather to enjoy stacks of pancakes for Springfield’s 379th birthday.
The World’s Largest Pancake Breakfast is an annual event that began in 1986. It begins at 8:00 Saturday morning, but volunteers are already here preparing.
They’re spending the better part of their morning mixing up and flipping 3,450 pounds of buttermilk flour, 600 pounds of eggs, 350 pounds of butter, and 450 gallons of water.
Tickets are $3 for adults and $1.50 for children. The Spirit of Springfield hosts the event and they’re also giving away 65,000 free breakfast tickets to students in the area.
If you do plan on coming down to enjoy some pancakes, keep in mind there will be road closures. Main Street will be blocked off from State Street to Bridge Street. And Boland Way to Harrison Ave. will be closed, along with Court Street to Falcon Way. There will be various “no parking” signs posted throughout the area.
The morning is not entirely about eating though. You can also take a ride on a horse-drawn wagon, a mini train, or sit back and listen to music from local high school bands.
Saturday’s breakfast is rain or shine, and that includes all of the activities.
