CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Chicopee police officer was taken to Baystate Medical Center after he was involved in a motorcycle accident Saturday morning.

Chicopee Police Sgt. Roy Landry told 22News that the accident between the officer’s department motorcycle and another vehicle, believed to be a pickup truck, happened on Memorial Drive near the Chic-fil-A at around 9:03 A.M.

He said that the officer was “conscious and alert” when he was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Landry said that the officer is expected to survive his injuries, and at 12:45 P.M., Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk posted on the department’s official Facebook page that the policeman would soon be released from the hospital.

The officer’s identity is not being revealed at this time.

Landry says that the officer had been working a traffic detail for the Great New England Air Show when the accident happened.

Police are continuing to look into the cause of the crash, and it is unclear whether any citations will be issued.
