BBQ raises funds for local troops’ care packages

This was the 8th annual “Rockin’ BBQ for the Troops”

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Saturday was Armed Forces Day here in America. To mark the occasion, a fundraiser for the troops was held in Holyoke.

It was a BBQ benefit complete with food, live music and raffles. The American Legion Post 325 holds this BBQ every year on this day to say thank you to those who’ve served our country.

All the money raised is used to buy care packages for local troops who are deployed in harm’s way. Last year they raised more than $5,500.

American Legion Post 325 Commander Paul Seifert told 22News, “When I was overseas getting care packages from home, it meant a real lot. Whether it was cookies or toilet paper. So we know that the guys and girls overseas now really enjoy when they get care packages.”
