“Night of Heroes” at Holyoke’s Volleyball Hall of Fame

It's a friendly sports competition among area police and firefighters

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – There is a lot going on in Western Massachusetts, including a Police and Fire Volleyball Challenge.

It’s a friendly sports competition among area police and firefighters, and they invite some from out of town as well.

On Friday night they held a welcome reception for the Holyoke, Springfield, Acton and New York City Fire Departments at the Volleyball Hall of Fame in Holyoke.

They call it the “Night of Heroes.”

Executive Director for the Volleyball Hall of Fame George Mulry told 22News, “One thing that we added this year is the Community Heroes Award. And tonight we’re giving that to the Holyoke Fire Department. The Unsung Hero Award for all the great things they do in the community.”

The “Battle of the Badges”, a tournament involving police and firefighters, takes place Saturday at Dean Tech in Holyoke from 11 to 6.

It’s inexpensive family fun; admission is free.
