CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A criminal complaint has been filed against a Chicopee police captain who allegedly filed a false police report back in 2013. According to a news release sent to 22News by the office of Mayor Richard Kos, the complaint against Capt. Mark Gilbert was filed by the Office of the Clerk Magistrate at Holyoke District Court last Friday.

The alleged false report was submitted to then-Chief Thomas Charette on July 19, 2013.

Gilbert has been put on administrative duties inside the police station, and has had his service weapon taken away as the matter is dealt with in court. The mayor’s office said that this is being done in accordance with past practice and Chicopee Police Department procedures.

If convicted, Gilbert, who is a 23-year veteran of the department, could receive up to a year in prison and/or a fine of up to $1,000.
