Busy weekend in WMass could cause delays

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – From the air show at the Westover ARB to multiple college commencement ceremonies, the roads and highways in Western Massachusetts will be busy this weekend.

The Great New England Air Show is expecting thousands of people on Saturday and Sunday.

You can expect to see big backups getting off the Massachusetts Turnpike, and on Interstate-91 coming up from Connecticut. From the Mass Pike east, you’ll want to get off at Exit 5 and Fuller Road Exit is the best route to Westover from I-291.

On Saturday, if you plan to attend the Elms College commencement ceremony at the Mass Mutual Center you’ll need to plan ahead, the 25th Annual Pancake Breakfast is happening on Main Street until 11:00 a.m.

Also on Saturday at the Mass Mutual Center, Westfield State University holds its commencement ceremony at 4:00 p.m. On Sunday, Springfield College holds its commencement ceremony at 9:30 a.m., and then, American International College at 3:00 p.m.

There are other events to know about as well. The “Long Meddowe Days” will be held on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The “Shad Derby Festival” takes place all weekend on the Connecticut River. And the Mount Holyoke College commencement ceremony will happen at 10:30 Sunday morning at the Gettell Amphitheater.
