(NBC News) – Two Mississippi police officers are dead and four suspects have been charged following a Saturday night traffic stop that ended in gunfire.
Officer Benjamin Deen, who initiated the fateful traffic stop, and his backup, Officer Liquori Tate, were gunned down Saturday night after Deen pulled over a car for speeding.
The suspects fled in a police cruiser later found abandoned, and after a massive manhunt police arrested four people.
Officials won’t discuss a motive or details.
“We’re not going to compromise the investigation. We know that he called for backup for a reason, and we’re going to find it out,” says Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree.
The case has been turned over to the Mississippi Bureau Of Investigation.
