Regular maintenance preserves air conditioning

Central air units have a life span of 12 to 15 years

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – This early warm spell is no time to discover your air conditioning doesn’t work.

But many Western Massachusetts homeowners got hot under the collar when they find out their central air conditioning system needed repair work..

Berkshire Heating and Air Conditioning service manager Joshua Smith has been fixing them as fast as he can. He said many people neglect preventative maintenance. “The components start to break down like your car wears out, the components are worn. If you had your regular maintenance done, they’re caught and repaired as time goes on.”

Central air units have a life span of 12 to 15 years. The telltale signs of a problem are rattling, and less cooling power.

More than half the homes in western Massachusetts use central air conditioning.
