Family members mourn Mississippi police officers killed

The pair were shot and killed Saturday night after Deen pulled a car over for speeding, then called for back-up

(NBC News) The city of Hattiesburg, Mississippi paused Monday to remember two police officers shot and killed over the weekend.

A vigil was held for officers Benjamin Deen, once Hattiesburg’s officer of the year, and rookie officer Liquori Tate. Family members say he wanted to be a cop since he was 4-years-old.

The pair were shot and killed Saturday night after Deen pulled a car over for speeding, then called for back-up.

When Tate arrived, both were shot. The suspects stole one of the police cars as passers-by discovered and tried to help the injured officers.

Police arrested four people who made their first appearance in court Monday.

Marvin Banks is charged with capital murder; Curtis Banks and Joanie Calloway are charged with being accessories after the fact, and Cornelius Clark is charged with rendering criminal assistance.
