East Longmeadow school’s opening delayed due to gas leak

Meadow Brook School placed on two-hour delay

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – An elementary school in East Longmeadow is opening later than normal Monday morning, due to a gas leak on the roof of the building.

East Longmeadow Fire Chief Paul Morrissette told 22News that they were called to the Meadow Brook School on Porter Road at shortly before 6:45 Monday morning.

Andrea Luppi, spokesperson for Columbia Gas of Massachusetts, told 22News that a section of gas pipe on the school’s roof was broken, causing gas to leak into the air. She said that no gas was leaking into the building itself, and that even after the pipe was shut off, the school still has gas service.

Chief Morrissette said that the police and school departments are looking into what caused the leak.

The school is on a two-hour delay as a result of the incident.
