Chicopee Police recovered body in Chicopee River

The body's discovery is not considered a criminal matter

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee police recovered a body from the Chicopee River Monday night. The discovery is not being investigated as a criminal matter.

Chicopee Police Captain Jeffery Gawron told 22News that the body was found a few minutes before 7:00 p.m. Monday behind the old Uniroyal building, not far from the Chicopee Police station.

Chicopee Police Detective Lt. Holly Davis told 22News that teenagers found the body near the river bank.

Lt Davis could not reveal the identity of the victim, pending a positive identification made by the Medical Examiner. “This does not look like the result of a crime,” said Lt. Davis.

Chicopee Police have been searching for 91 year-old Lawrence Cinq-Mars, who has been missing since April 24.  No connection has yet been established between Monday night’s discovery and that missing man.
