Red Flag Warning issued for Western Mass.

Warning lasts until this Sunday evening.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden Counties this Sunday May 10th starting at 1 PM until 8 PM Sunday night.

A Red Flag Warning is issued when conditions are right for the development of brush fires.

Due to dry conditions with no significant rainfall in a couple weeks, windy conditions, and warm temperatures today, allows for any fires that are started to possibly spread rapidly. Those fires could also be hard to extinguish.

Winds will be from the southwest around 10-15 MPH, with possible wind gusts up to 25 MPH. Winds will be the breeziest this afternoon and early evening.

There is a chance of seeing some scattered light rain showers this Sunday evening, with a possibility of hearing a rumble of thunder due to temperatures going up into the upper 80’s today. These rain showers will not be enough to moisten the ground.

If grilling on this Mother’s Day Sunday, keep in mind of the dry and breezy conditions.
