HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Going fishing was one Mother’s Day activity that attracted moms on this very special day.
Some moms and their kids competed in the 50th Holyoke Gas and Electric Shad Derby along the Connecticut River.
Others had come to view the Holyoke fish lift, and stayed to see who’d come away with the catch of the day. Gillian Tallman of Holyoke said, “We wanted to go to the fish lift, we might as well stay out and see the people fishing.
The fish were definitely biting on this first weekend of Holyoke’s landmark fishing competition.
The Shad Derby will start its second full weekend next Saturday in the shadow of the Holyoke Dam.
