WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Whether you’re taking on a few extra chores, or treating mom to brunch, Mother’s Day is all about pampering one of the most special women in our lives.
Millions of moms woke up to homes filled with cards, flowers, and small gifts, but for many moms, their favorite gift of all is something money can’t buy.
West Springfield resident Beverly Midwood told 22News the only tradition she looks forward to is spending quality time with her four children and 12 grandchildren. “I think it’s mostly for the family, not just for the moms, because the family all gets together and goes out to eat,” she said.
This year, dozens of families crowded into Memo’s in West Springfield for Mother’s Day brunch. For many of them, including Westfield resident Rocky Snow, the early morning treat was just the beginning of a day devoted to mom. “She likes to work in the yard so you know; we’ll help her out in the yard. Take her out eat so she doesn’t have to cook. It’s just her day today,” he said.
Mother’s Day is also a special day for the entire family. Connecticut resident Ed Rowland told 22News his favorite part of the day is showing his wife how much he appreciates her. “It’s a day that Daniel, my son and I, can finally do something for mom that we don’t normally do. We try to be good to her, all year, but today’s a special day where we can treat her, take her out to breakfast, let her do whatever she wants,” he said.
According to a “Retail Me Not” survey, more than half of moms would prefer help around the house over any material gifts. However, many others said this Mother’s Day, they just want to be reminded that they’re appreciated.
