HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Shad are biting at one of Western Massachusetts most popular fishing events.
Fishermen by the dozens tested their rod and reel skills during the first day of the 50th annual Holyoke Gas and Electric department’s Shad Derby on the Holyoke side of the South Hadley bridge. Some did their fishing from the bridge, but most others got right down to the edge of the Connecticut River. Timothy Cross of Easthampton told 22News he knows a good fishing site when he sees one. “This is really one of the few places in this world you can actually shad fish like this, one of them,” said Cross.
This makes up for the one’s that got away. The Shad Derby is by tradition a four days event. You can join the other anglers on or below the South Hadley Bridge on Sunday and next Saturday and Sunday.
