SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – This is growing season in one Springfield inner city neighborhood. Hancock Street was the Garden spot of Springfield’s old hill neighborhood Saturday.
The 4th annual gardener’s gathering and plant sale, the celebration of home gardening brought together the growers and neighbors anxious to buy their plants.
22News spoke with neighbors who see the benefits of this project. “Honestly just in case I don’t feel like going to buy processed food from the grocery, I can basically grow it at home,” said Kyle Lindsey of Springfield.
Xavier Lopez of Springfield told 22News, “Usual day after school 4-6 Saturday, it’ll be probably 1-2 and over the summer 8-12.”
In addition to the plants and produce they sold to neighborhood customers, organizers also held workshops how neighbors can grow their own gardens.
