Overturned truck removed from Mass Pike ramp, Exit 4 re-opened

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) –  A tractor trailer truck overturned on the Exit 4 offramp of the Mass Pike eastbound; causing the ramp to be closed from the morning commute into the very early afternoon Thursday.

Police set up cones to prevent drivers from exiting, as a Bobcat was used to remove the contents from the overturned trailer. Heavy equipment was brought in to haul the truck away. The ramp, which had been shut down since about 7:00 A.M., was finally re-opened before 12:30 P.M.

The accident and ramp closure did not cause significant backups, but the biggest delay to drivers was the detour around the exit, which connects with Interstate 91 and Route 5.

According to State Police in Westfield, no injuries were reported as a result of the accident.
