Mother’s Day weekend expected to be busy for travelers

In 2013, it ranked second behind the Friday before Columbus Day

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is warning travelers to plan ahead for the upcoming Mother’s day weekend.

The Friday before Mother’s Day traditionally ranks among the busiest travel days of the year for the Mass Pike. In 2013, it ranked second behind the Friday before Columbus Day with nearly 700-thousand toll transactions.

The D-O-T says MassPike booths will be adequately staffed, but encourages drivers to join E-Z pass to avoid long lines.
