Lawrence, 6-alarm fire burns 2 buildings

LAWRENCE, Mass. (WWLP) – Firefighters say two buildings were destroyed and several others were damaged in a 6-alarm blaze in Lawrence, but there were no reports of injuries.

The fire was called in a little after 4 o’clock and has spread to multiple buildings in a residential part of the city.

Firefighters say the blaze started in a vacant building that’s undergoing renovations and spread to an occupied three-unit apartment building. About a dozen people from three families were displaced.

One building has since collapsed. Mutual aid from several surrounding communities were called in to help.

At least five families have been affected. Mayor Daniel Rivera said at the scene that everyone was accounted for.

Several nearby homes were also evacuated as a precaution.

There was no word on a cause.
