NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Hundreds of seniors showed up for the 13th annual Health and Safety Fair at the Northampton Senior Center Thursday. The fair provides local residents with information on all sorts of issues that affect their well being, from fall prevention to home security and fire safety.

One of the most popular stations at the fair was a blood pressure station. Students from Northampton’s Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School tested the blood pressure of fair attendees.

Sixty-six year old Peter Corbett of Northampton regrets not having checked his blood pressure numbers earlier. “Because I had a stroke back in September, I got out of the hospital on October 7,” Corbett said. “Had I checked my blood pressure prior to that, I didn’t, I probably wouldn’t have had a stroke.”

Exercise experts at the fair also encouraged the seniors to get the most out of their later years.
