HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A Holyoke employer needs to know young machinists will be ready to fill the jobs when veteran workers retire. Congressman Richard Neal toured the Meridian Industrial Group Plant in Holyoke Thursday with Owner Steve Grande.
Meridian manufactures specialized tools for Industry and the aerospace agencies. Grande’s concerned with training tomorrow’s workers with what he called the needed soft skills. “Young people need to understand what it means to have a job. and how to treat that job.you shouldn’t be trying to squeeze a job into your schedule, you should be squeezing your job into your schedule,” said Grande.
Congressman Richard Neal told 22News, “We can remind people of the great wages and great benefits that come with these sort of jobs in the manufacturing sector,”
Meridian currently employs 30 machinists. They’re hoping to expand the number of jobs by 20 percent each year.
