HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Organizations concerned with the futures of neighborhood young people held a youth safe summer kick-off at Kenefick playground on Plainfield Street in the North End.
There was a job fair for kids of working age along with volunteers from the neighborhood alternative to violence project.
The young teens got to mingle with program volunteers close to their own age.
“First and foremost we’re trying to eliminate we’re trying to keep our young people as busy as possible this summer, we’re bringing summer opportunities to prevent summer tragedy,” said Armando Olivares.
High school students anxious to work this summer received instruction on how to act during an interview and how to put together a resume.
Among the agencies responsible for Saturday’s safe summer preparations are the Western Massachusetts Farm Workers Council and the New North Citizens Council.
