Family homeless, firefighter injured in Wilbraham house fire

It's not clear what caused the fire

WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WWLP) – A Wilbraham Firefighter was taken to the hospital and a family of four is without a place to call home.

A fire started in the second floor bedroom of this home at 14 Weston Street in Wilbraham just after 6 o’clock Saturday night.

While fighting the flames, a Wilbraham firefighter was overcome by smoke, and was taken out on a stretcher and then taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Wilbraham Fire Captain Thomas Shaw told 22News the family of four was able to escape the home, along with their four cats. The home is too badly damaged for them to stay there, but they are being helped by the Pioneer Valley Red Cross.

It’s not clear what caused the fire; the state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
