SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A three year-old girl is now in the custody of the Department of Children and Families, after she was found wandering the streets of the South End early Tuesday morning.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that the girl was found by patrolling officers walking down Oswego Street at around 2:00 A.M., shoeless and wearing only a pair of pajamas. He said that the girl was only able to tell officers her first name, and couldn’t tell them where she lived, though she was able to say that her mother wasn’t home.
He said that it was cold at around 2:00 A.M., and the girl was checked out to make sure she was okay, though she was uninjured.
Delaney says that they were able to identify the child’s mother, and found that she had left her daughter with a babysitter at the time the girl wandered off.
It is unclear at this point whether any charges will be filed.
